As you probably gathered from the site, We've been living a frugal life and growing vegetables for 30 years and you can share our experience. I think growing your own gives you control of your food. You know what has gone into producing them and what, if any, sprays have gone onto your crop. Our latest book, Backgarden Chickens & Other Poultry is now out. As well as chickens, we cover Ducks, Geese, Quail & Turkeys Our latest book, on vegetable growing, covers nearly everything I know about growing vegetables. Unlike our other books, this is a hardback with colour photographs and illustrations. The Complete Vegetable Grower The first book, Vegetable Growing Month by Month, has become one of the most popular gardening books in the UK because it gives straightforward advice for growing vegetables. Whether you are growing on a patio in containers or an allotment plot, there's help in here. The second book, The Essential Allotment Guide, is aimed at those looking to get or growing on an allotment or larger plot. Although it stands alone, I think it works well with Vegetable Growing Month by Month. The last of our growing books is for those with a small garden or even no garden at all. Vegetable Fruit & Herb Growing in Small Spaces covers planning a small garden to be productive and growing in pots, grow bags and other containers. Our book Low Cost Living is a departure, it's really about living well but not spending a lot of money to do so. It's also about being green. There's so much nonsense talked about being green that I wanted to get over practical things we can all do easily to help the planet as well as help ourselves. This book is a joint effort, Val did the work and I take half the credit and eat the jam! If you want to make your own then take a look at Easy Jams, Chutneys & Preserves Our book How to Store Your Home Grown Produce covers all you need to know to keep your harvest for use year round. You can buy signed copies direct from us or you can buy (unsigned) at a discount from online bookstores like Amazon. The books are available in all good bookstores and now in many garden centres as well. Articles Reviews for Our BooksMr Harrison has produced a well written veg book, that will get you growing your own in no time. It does exactly what it says on the cover,a good down to earth guide which will be a great book for new and experienced gardeners alike. Just the right size to take out to your veg plot. Mr R W Braker John's book offers down to earth advice in a friendly chatty way, keeping an eye to simplicity (and the "have a go spirit") but also offering useful knowledge to help ensure success. A wealth of information in a book small enough to be brought to the plot for on the spot reference. Highly recommended! Sal My son wrote this, he's an author you know. Buy a copy now and he'll sign it for you. Did I tell you he's an author? My Mum A great book that shows you how to save pennies while also thinking about your environmental impact. Unlike similar books this one isn't an expensive purchase. It is an informative and great reference book with recipes, grow your own, animal husbandry and many other useful tips to help tighten the purse strings without giving up the things you enjoy. Chicken Girl I love the way this book shows how a less consumerist, more ecological lifestyle can also be more economical. I am also impressed by how it is helpful to those who are new to the concept as well as to those (like me) who are already converted. S Robb |
